Her music has been dubbed folk-country but she's been singing a blend of blues, pop, rock and country for more than a decade. Her early albums were very traditional and it wasn't till the late 1980s that she released an album full of ballads and bluesy rock tunes that garnered much critical praise. While she continues to be the critics' darling, however, massive success has eluded her. Despite this, she refuses to cave in to the commercial needs of the labels and has retained creative control throughout her career. For that she must be applauded.
